CoFBAT hosted its 2nd Webinar on Material and component upscaling & recyclability and sustainability

Updated: Jun 8, 2023

On the 26th of January, the second CoFBAT Webinar on material and component upscaling & recyclability and sustainability took place. The aim of the webinar was to provide the participating stakeholders with an insight into the advances of the CoFBAT project concerning the upscaling of the anode and cathode materials and the recycling process and implementation.

The webinar was opened by the project coordinator Carlos Concepcion who provided a short introduction to the project and who introduced the speakers: Harald Kren from Varta Innovation, Iratxe de Meatza from Cidetec and Monika Keutmann from Mimitech.

Harald Kren, project manager at Varta Innovation and task leader in WP6 in the CoFBAT project, provided insights into how the CoFBAT cell concept including a cobalt-free cathode and gel-polymer electrolyte, will be integrated into the Varta product line for the 21700 cells, as well as key procedures on upscaling together with an assessment of critical steps.

Iratxe de Meatza, senior research and team leader of the Advanced Li-ion group at Cidetec and WP4 leader in the CoFBAT project, presented the highlights of the testing of the cell concept on small pouch cells and the assembly process of laminating the gel-polymer electrolyte on the electrodes.

The final presentation by Monika Keutmann, project manager at Mimitech and WP7 leader, focused on the recycling concept developed within CoFBAT and the recycling efficiency obtained. Last but not least important sustainability assessment and LCA were shown.
